Types of Burritos

There are really 2 types of burritos that I care about.

Northern California styles burritos
&
California Burritos

the California burrito is an invention of Southern California where I currently reside.  It is basically carne asada (grilled steak), guacamole, sour cream, cheese, and french fries wrapped inside a lightly fried tortilla.  If I trust the taqueria, I will order carnitas (grilled pork) instead of carne asada.

The Northern California burrito is what I like to call, "a meal wrapped inside a tortilla".  Many Northern California burritos include Meat, beans (pinto, black, or refried), rice, cheese, sour cream, avocado (or guacamole), pico de gallo, and sometimes lettuce.

Most people who live in Southern California have not experienced the incredible flavor explosion that is a Northern California burrito.  In SoCal, the burrito is greasier, fried, and the ingredients are rarely fresh.  I always feel that SoCal burritos are more like fastfood, where NorCal burritos tend to touch all the food groups.

There are many other types of burritos. and I would love to hear the discrepancies that you have in your communities.  I have spent my entire adult life bouncing between Norcal and Socal so these are some of the differences I have noticed.

You are welcome to argue with me, I welcome the debate.
